This year, Olympics was held in Rio De Jenerio named as Rio Olympics 2016 which started its ceremony from 5 august 2016 tand ended on 21 August 2016.
Rio olympics was officially opened by vce president Michel Temer as acting president. Total 207 nations participated with full of energetic vibes including our nation India. 11,303 athletes were participants in this year’s olympics.
This year India was not having too much of appreciating performance but the participants showed their will power in their sports.
7 factors can be listed why Rio Olympics 2016 not proved favourable for Indian participants:
1.Government-didn’t supported their athlets and curruption didn’t erased till now in India’s economic stats.
2.Career option-less career options for athletes in India. e.g.rashmita Patra was an ardent footballer, now working as a’Betel shop owner’,Asha Roy was the fastest athlete in India who was clocking 11.85 seconds at 51st national open athletics ,now she is selling ‘vegetable n street’.
3.parents’ mantality- Indian parents lack in supporting their children towards sports and thinks progressings in studies could only be their best career option. we will never be able to see good athletes in this nation untill parents thinking takes a good turn.
4.lack of infrastructure-we are lacking of a good infrastructure and govt. should take care about this. In India we have more than 10 world class grounds for cricket but do not have even a proper ground for athletes.
5.politics-actually ruining our nation’s chance to win medals at rio. Coaches selects their athlete not by talent but who is favourable for them.
6.lack of exposure-Indian athletes lacks in exposure because they play their sports only in India. And then for the first time ,they step out directly into Olympics.
7.Nervous-indians do get nervous in mega events like Olympics. World champions like Milkha Singh and PT Usha nearly missed their medals in Olympics. In 2012 our archery team was world champion but during Olympics, they did nothing.
While many may believe that the Indian contingent failed to leave an impact in the Olympics this time, the athletes deserve appreciation. They already are receiving gratitude through honors with PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmakar and Jitu Rai getting elected to be awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award this year. Karmakar’s coach Bishweshwar Nandi has also been nominated for the Dronacharya Award. Lalita Babar, Shiva Thapa and Apurvi Chandela are also set to receive the Arjuna Awards for 2016.
